Glossary
These words are how Muttoo refuses a fake consensus. They are not a substitute for your scholar.
- Verified halal
- Cited evidence supports permissibility for the documented origin and process. It is not a factory certification of a branded product.
- Verified haram
- A prohibited origin is confirmed by the cited position. Muttoo does not upgrade mashbooh to this label.
- Source-dependent
- The ruling follows the raw material or process. The E-number does not tell you which. Treat as mashbooh until the source is known.
- Scholarly disagreement
- Reputable positions conflict. Each is shown. Muttoo does not pick a winner.
- Insufficient evidence
- Not enough reliable source material to classify. A stub is not a ruling.
- Mashbooh
- Doubtful / not confirmed. It is not a synonym for haram. See What mashbooh means.
- E-number
- An EU/UK code for a food additive. The code names the function, not the feedstock.
- Zabiha
- Slaughter performed according to Islamic requirements. Bovine gelatin is not automatically halal.
- Istihalah
- Complete transformation. A minority view applies this to gelatin; the majority cited here do not. Shown as disagreement where it arises.
- Grade A / B / C
- A: primary certifier, regulator, or original scholarly source. B: named certifier educational guidance. C: secondary aggregated reference.
- HPMC
- Hypromellose - a plant-derived capsule shell, the usual alternative to gelatin capsules.
- Carrier
- A solvent or filler that carries a flavour or vitamin - commonly ethanol, glycerin or a fat.
