Source-dependent means the ruling follows the raw material. The E-number will not tell you which. This is what to do next - not a ruling on your dinner.

1. Read the rest of the pack. A vegan mark, a recognised halal mark, or “vegetable origin” often settles E471, glycerin and stearates.
2. Match the exact name. E960a is not E960c. Softgel is not HPMC. Paste the line into paste a label.
3. Ask the manufacturer one question. Source-dependent pages include a ready-to-send question. Save the reply.
4. If they will not answer, treat it as unresolved. That is mashbooh. It is not verified-haram. Follow your own scholar on whether to avoid it.
