Ibn Adam relies on Arabic lexica (al-Zabidi, Fayruzabadi) and notes that the other three Sunni schools permit prawns, which makes a leniency; he still says abstaining is advisable. Desai relies on the fish-and-locust hadith and a vertebra test. Both are Hanafi. A later Ask Imam answer (fatwa 19531) records two reliable opinions and taqwa to refrain with leeway to consume — that is not used here as a third ruling.
