What to verify

For Hydroxyapatite in this product: is the source plant, synthetic, or animal? If animal, which species and slaughter method?

The detail

The 3 April 2025 SCCS opinion considers specified rod-shaped hydroxyapatite (nano) in toothpaste and mouthwash. That is toxicology, not fiqh. Animal-bone hydroxyapatite and synthetic or mineral routes are not separated on most INCI lines. A fluoride row, glycerin, and flavour stay independent checks. This is not a fatwa.

What the sources say

Based on the data provided, the SCCS considers hydroxyapatite (nano) safe when used at concentrations up to 29.5% in toothpaste, and up to 10% in mouthwash.
